Aggressive Rollout for SUNA Traffic Channel announced
Intelematics has announced aggressive plans for the ongoing national rollout of SUNA Traffic Channel. This follows the successful consumer launch of the SUNA Traffic Channel broadcast (RDS-TMC) service in conjunction with Mio and Navway GPS navigation brands, in December 2007.
Intelematics’ revised rollout plan will position the SUNA Traffic Channel broadcast service to address the everyday congestion concerns of 75% of urban Australians by May 2008 with the addition of Sydney and Brisbane frequencies. This timing corresponds with the availability of the Australian Standard TMC Location table for those cities, and will follow finalisation of the necessary technical interfaces to traffic light control systems in those states.
Also announced, SUNA Traffic Channel will provide coverage of the remaining capital cities by June 2008, with the release of the SUNA Traffic Reporter™ service for Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, and Darwin. SUNA Traffic Reporter is a subset of the full SUNA Traffic Channel content, consisting of ‘journalistic’ or descriptive information relating to accidents, major roadworks, and other major traffic issues.
The SUNA Traffic Reporter service addresses market interest in a simplified XML data feed that does not require location table (TMC) support. With the addition of the SUNA Traffic Reporter service, we have products optimised for a broad range of traffic-enabled devices or services including web portals, portable & embedded navigation systems, logistics systems, and smartphones.
The release of SUNA Traffic Reporter will not delay the release of the full SUNA Traffic Channel RDS-TMC service in these cities. We continue to anticipate rollout of the full SUNA Traffic Channel RDS-TMC service for Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, and Darwin RDS-TMC coverage across the majority of these areas by late 2008.
