Suna Traffic Channel - available now in Melbourne

The Suna Traffic Channel service is now available on selected Mio Digiwalker™ and Navway Street Navigator portable GPS navigation devices.

The Mio brand belongs to Taiwan-based technology manufacturer MiTac, who also own Navman. The Navway Street Navigator has been developed by Ausway, publisher of Australia’s most comprehensive street directories – Melway, Brisway and Sydway – in conjunction with Medion AG.

With Suna Traffic Channel enabled on their Mio or Navway units, motorists can steer clear of traffic gridlock and be better informed about the road conditions around them in real-time. This presents a coming of age for Australia’s navigation industry and a major advancement for users of portable GPS navigation devices here.

Subscribers are notified of incidents that may directly impact their route, enabling them to anticipate delays and make informed decisions to be redirected around accidents, traffic jams and other hazards.

Intelematics however uses data from Australia’s traffic light control systems and other sources enabling the generation of hundreds of traffic and road condition alerts every hour.

Suna Traffic Channel services are available in Melbourne now through the Mio Digiwalker™ C320, C520 and C720t units. These devices are available through Dick Smiths Electronics, Harvey Norman and JB HiFi. The Navway Street Navigator units will initially be available through RACV shops. Other leading portable navigation brands are expected to join Mio and Navway in offering Suna Traffic Channel during 2008.

Suna Traffic Channel continues to make its mark as an important Australian innovation and will further enhance the convenience and safety offered to drivers by navigation systems. Australian drivers can now join the millions of Europeans and Americans who are benefiting everyday by having traffic conditions made available to them when and where they need it, in their cars, whilst driving.
