GM FleetView

GM Holden recently launched GM FleetView giving fleet managers all the details they need directly from the vehicle itself.

An integrated passenger vehicle fleet telematics application introduced by Holden, GM FleetView uses GPS satellite technology to monitor vehicle location and an in-vehicle interface unit to retrieve data directly from the vehicle’s electronic systems.

Intelematics extended their relationship with GM Holden through the provision of the web based service which leverages Intelematics’ Telematics Service Hub (TSH) technology and provides a comprehensive suite of workforce management, asset management, and driver-safety services. An easy-to-use business/private journey button for the driver is integrated into the vehicle’s instrument cluster eliminating paper log-books.

The system is integrated to GM LAN which enables a seamless user interface and access to valuable management information beyond the reach of existing aftermarket systems.

Data that is available through GM FleetView includes; odometer, fuel fills, fuel use, top speed, idle time, service due and low battery, which can be used to manage the rotation, utilisation and servicing of those vehicles.

For the Fleet Manager the automation of driver logbooks eliminates the need for the time consuming and unreliable manual logbooks. Fleet managers can now be guaranteed of complete and accurate information providing the benefits of significantly reduced taxation burden for tool of trade vehicles (and other high business use vehicles). The system has also been given a class ruling by the ATO providing fleet managers the assurance that this is a legitimate means to collect logbook data for the calculation of vehicle Fringe Benefit Tax.

And whilst the initial focus is on the fleet manger, drivers can also benefit from the timesaving and productivity boosting features of GM FleetView. The automated logbook and automated timesheet facility enables drivers to add detail to complete their ‘paperwork’ via the web interface. Drivers with set routes may even be spared the task entirely.

And safety is always top of a fleet manager’s priority list, which is why GM FleetView incudes vehicle security and driver support services. For example, if a fleet vehicle is stolen, GPS technology can be used to locate and assist with recovery of that vehicle. The system can even be used to help a driver who has locked their keys in the vehicle by unlocking the central locking system.

It is not surprising that Australia has emerged as a pioneer of fleet telematics, as some 70% of locally production is targeted at this segment. Holden leads the market in this segment.

Uniquely, Holden’s in-vehicle telematics hardware module is configurable to support either fleet telematics services or Holden Assist, a safety/security telematics package, and showcases the Holden Messaging Service where text messages can be sent directly to the vehicle’s radio unit screen.

GM FleetView is also aware of companies and individuals need for privacy, and when using GM FleetView this is set by each individual company’s policies. From all journeys and locations being visible to the Fleet Manager, through to journey locations being visible only to drivers, GM FleetView can be adjusted to suit all needs.

Through GM FleetView, Intelematics is supporting GM Holden in a world-first provision of detailed journey reporting on an automotive manufacturer passenger fleet programme.

GM FleetView is available on all locally manufactured Holden vehicles.

The in-vehicle telematics hardware module used by GM FleetView was developed in partnership between GM Holden and Australian Arrow.
