Extending telematics beyond safety and security - CEO of Intelematics speaks at SatNav 2003

Intelematics is pushing the envelope of passenger vehicle telematics by prototyping a suite of asset management oriented telematics services.

Speaking at SatNav 2003 on 'In-Vehicle-Location-Based Services', Intelematics' CEO, Adam Game believes that telematics services can be supported within the technical scope (and cost constraints) of the passenger vehicle market.

Intelematics Australia is a leading provider of mobile information, safety and security services for Australian motorists. The company has recently researched the market opportunities for application of new technologies to fleet management.

"Vehicle telematics services in the Australian market have focused in their first generation on a core suite of safety/security services, monitoring airbag systems, tracking & immobilising stolen vehicles", says CEO of Intelematics, Adam Game. "As telematics services move into the mainstream, a range of complimentary services will be required to add value to driver, vehicle owner, and manufacturer", he said.

Game said the next generation of services are still fundamentally location-based, but add value by enhancing mobility (for instance navigation and traffic congestion services), or by improving asset utilisation.

Held in Melbourne 22-25 July 2003, SatNav 2003, was the 6th International Conference on Satellite Navigation Technology including Mobile Positioning & Location Services.
